Confusing the Grind with the Edge
The primary grind shapes the blade, while the edge bevel forms the cutting edge.
Sharpening the Primary Grind
Routine maintenance should normally focus on the edge bevel. Altering the primary grind removes much more steel and changes the knife's geometry.
Ignoring Blade Thickness
A sharp edge cannot fully compensate for a blade that has become excessively thick behind the edge.
Using Terminology Inconsistently
Different manufacturers use different terms. Throughout the HALFMOON Guides, Primary Grind refers to the blade's main grind, and Edge Bevel refers to the sharpened bevel that forms the cutting edge.
